Miss Native American University of Arizona
Competition Information

The selection of Miss Native American University of Arizona will be made on the basis of the categories listed below. Time limits will be strictly adhered to and loss of points will result for contestants who exceed the stated time limit.

Note: To maintain fairness, applicants will not be allowed to submit application material after the stated deadline. Applications that are incomplete at the time of the stated deadline will not be considered.

Letter of Recommendation
The letter will be submitted with the application materials. It must be written by a non-related Faculty, community, or tribal member.

Essay
Essay will be submitted with the application materials. It may not be longer than two pages and must be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, and 1-inch margins. See Official Application form for essay question.

Personal Interview
The personal interview will be conducted with the judges and will last approximately 20 minutes. As a general guideline, please be available the day before the pageant Talent Showcase, during the afternoon.

The Talent Showcase
The following categories will take place during the pageant Talent Showcase and will be open to the public.

Traditional Talent
Contestants must wear tribal dress and perform a traditional talent of their choice. Contestants are not allowed to change their traditional talent after the application deadline. There is a five minute time limit.

Contemporary Talent
Contestants should wear appropriate attire for their selected contemporary talent. Contestants are not allowed to change their contemporary talent after the application deadline. There is a five minute time limit.

Impromptu Question
Contestants will be given one minute to address a question.

Native Design

Guidelines, Eligibility, Rules

Must be a full-time student at The University of Arizona through the entirety of reign.

Must not graduate before relinquishing the title to the following Miss Native UA.

Must have completed one semester of college study.

Must be 18 years of age.

Must be an enrolled member of a tribe.

Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher.

Must submit a mid-semester academic progress report to the Director of Native American Student Affairs.

If withdraws from a class(es) resulting in less than full-time student status and/or drops below required cumulative GPA of 2.50, must submit a progress report indicating how she is to make up academic deficiencies.

Must not have previously held the title of Miss Native American University of Arizona.

Must not be married.

Must not have any children or become pregnant during the duration of the reign.

Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Must have a working knowledge of Native American traditions, history, culture, and customs.

Must be willing to represent the Native American students, faculty staff, and community of The University of Arizona.

Must provide own traditional and contemporary attire.

Must be responsible for her own transportation to functions throughout her reign.

Must be willing and able to plan student activities and collaborate with a diverse university population.

Must not hold the Miss Native American University of Arizona Committee, Native American Student Affairs, or The University of Arizona liable for losses, damages, or injury if selected as Miss Native American University of Arizona.
